Headless and Crippled (Sources for Denial of Loss)
Headless and Crippled is a series of digital photographs originally shot with a mobile phone. The images, shot at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Cloisters in New York, portray a group of antique broken sculptures that were missing either their head or limbs. When looking over those images it was the slice -the injury and the damage- what was most compelling to me. From there, the idea of recovering and restoring what once was damaged and broken came to be a pivotal aspect of my work. The series constitutes itself as the primary source for the studies later developed for the body of work Denial of Loss: The Romance of the Fragment (2014).
